Course Introduction

Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) manage and monitor ship movements to ensure safe and efficient navigation. A VTS course covers the system's purpose, communication protocols, navigational tools, and relevant regulations. It trains individuals to operate VTS systems, preventing accidents and improving maritime traffic flow.

Course Objective

• Understand the concepts and functionalities of Vessel Traffic Services & Management systems
• Evaluate and use international guidelines to assist in the establishment, management  and operation of VTIMS systems
• Examine and discuss approaches to VTS operator training including the use of simulators
• Identify and discuss the potential problems in vessel control that may exist between ship and shore controller.

Training Methodology

A highly interactive combination of lecture and discussion sessions will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge and experience transfer. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions, and motivate everybody finding the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their own questions and to share developing the right answers using their own analysis and experience.
